Alwin Ng has a passion for helping finance professionals move from drowning in data to driving decisions -- and he has spent over two decades earning the right to teach it.

His career began inside two of the world’s most demanding financial environments. As a Finance Graduate Trainee at Rolls-Royce PLC in Derby, UK, he rotated across business units inside one of the world’s foremost engineering organisations -- learning firsthand how enterprise finance operates under pressure.

He then moved into banking, first as a Financial Control Analyst at Barclays Bank in London. His time at Barclays coincided with the 2008–2010 global subprime financial crisis. Rather than stepping back, Alwin stepped in -- conducting data mining across multiple banking systems, producing management reports under conditions that left no room for error, redesigning process flows, and leading the structured handover of his team’s responsibilities from London to India. It was during this period that he became a certified SAP and Oracle Hyperion superuser. That experience -- real systems, real pressure, real consequences -- is the foundation on which everything he teaches is built. Later on, he continued he banking career an Analyst at Royal Bank of Scotland.

Alwin holds a Master of Engineering (MEng) from Imperial College London and is a fully qualified member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (ACMA, CGMA). He completed his CIMA professional examinations in two years -- well ahead of the standard timeline -- while simultaneously building his early career at Rolls-Royce and Barclays. He returned to Malaysia through the Talentcorp Returning Expert Programme and founded SmartB Solutions -- a technology and training company that builds financial systems for businesses.

In recent years, Alwin has developed a focused suite of programmes to help finance teams engage practically with Generative AI -- not as a concept, but as a working tool embedded in their daily financial workflows.

His courses span Finance Storytelling, Prompt Engineering for Finance Professionals, and Business Performance Intelligence using KPIs and Generative AI.

He delivered the CIMA SEA Webinar on Generative AI and Prompt Engineering in January 2025, receiving a 4.0 out of 5.0 participant rating. A Certified Master Coach and NLP Practitioner (ABNLP), he brings a depth of facilitation skill that consistently turns technical content into engaging, immediately applicable learning.

Alwin’s mission is to give finance professionals in Asia the same quality of financial systems thinking and AI capability that global enterprises take for granted -- and to make it practical, not theoretical.
